The Chinese have an enviable ability to sleep anywhere and at anytime…  Many times I’ve been on a bus or train so jealous of this ability!
So the next few images are dedicated to sleeping in China!

The Usual Chaos on the streets in Shanghai
The Usual Chaos on the streets in Shanghai

A normal day of chaos on the streets in Shanghai.  Yes there are traffic lights, but sometimes you would never believe it!

Fishing Village Man
Fishing Village Man

Fishing Village is a place made famous by Bill Clinton when he visited this remote village just off the Li River in Guangxi Province in South West China.  Fishing Village is one of those places only accessable by boat.  Most of the residents are camera shy.  However, this guy was willing to pose and I [...]

Women of Moon Hill IV
Women of Moon Hill IV

These helpful ladies will kindly sell you postcards, water, cola and beer on your journey from the roadside to the top of Moon Hill.  It’s only an hours walk, but in the Guangxi summer heat, it get’s pretty hot up there!  These ladies will also lend a hand in pointing you in the right direction.

These ladies must range in age from 40’s to over 70.  They easily walk up and down Moon Hill several times a day following tourists and hoping for a quick sale.  Mind you, they can’t be making much money from the odd sale of over prices water at 3 rmb!

We thought we had enough water, but we were quite happy to buy another two and a couple cans of coke at the top.  Prices were no different than a local Family Mart (at least after a little haggling!).

These next 4 images are of the women who follow you up and down your walk at Moon Hill just outside Yangshuo in the Guangxi Province of SW China.  They carry a small selection of cold drinks in a small insulated boxes as well as postcards.  Apart from the fact that it’s hard to shift [...]

Old and New Shanghai
Old and New Shanghai

I’ve been messing about with this image of old Shanghai (around Yuyuan) with the background of new Shanghai (Lujiazui).  I definitely like it in black and white, but I’m having some difficulty getting the tones to my  liking.  Image taken in October 2008.  Any suggestions?

From the back of a cab III
From the back of a cab III

From the back of a cab in Shanghai.  Roads here are not just for cars, there’s bicycles, people, carts, electric scooters, trucks and everything else you could imagine.  This street scene just looks busy to me and gives a fair impression of a more suburban area of Shanghai.
I’ve also messed about with the photoshop tilt [...]

Tilt Shifting Techniques - Fake 1
Tilt Shifting Techniques - Fake 1

There are three lenses I have been coverting for the past 8-12 months or so, each of them a Canon Tilt Shift lens.  They are good for correcting persepective with subjects such as architecture, however they are also good for changing the plane of focus from the standard parallel to the sensor plate to a [...]

This is currently one of my  favourite images and represents life in the suburbs of Shanghai.  There has been frantic construction going on for several years now to place Shanghai in the best infrastructure position possible.  The domestic Hong Qiao Airport recently opened a brand new terminal and this happened in conjunction with a new [...]
