I’m pretty sure this is unpublished on my blog, although it might be on my old website somewhere.
This was taken in Chicago during a very brief roadtrip and we ended up with only about 3 hours in the city. It was an opportunity not to miss!
Seen in Chicago, USA :: June 2008
This has been previously published on one original website as part of a series of work showing urban Vancouver, Canada.
I really wanted to included it in my Urban Blues collection for the new website and with this improved treatment, it works just brilliantly!
Seen in Vancouver late at night with a 15 second exposure and the [...]
Another discovery from my archive and I believe previously unpublished on my blog and to be fair if I published it before, the treatment I previously gave it wouldn’t be anything like this one!! Enjoy.
Seen in Macao :: September 2008
I’m relaunching my website in a week or so and currently working on the images for the new galleries.
One theme I’ve enjoyed for sometime now is all about night time urban photography. The places are not necessarily well known, but the images are hopefully strong and full of deep blues.
Rediscovered in my archive: Under the [...]
After a couple days of the Urban Planning Museum and what they think Shanghai will look like… I feel the need for a present day view!!
This is the night time view from the hotel lobby of the Marriott Hotel at Tomorrow Square on Nanjing Xi Lu in Shanghai. I believe it’s the 38th floor.
The future [...]
Zhongshan Park is one of the 4 or 5 main urban centres of Shanghai and currently the area I live. In fact you can see my apartment, it’s on the bottom right and the second building of 3 tall buildings…
The Urban Planning Museum in Shanghai is really quite cool - they have a whole city [...]
This is the future of Shanghai and a glimpse of what it will look like 10 years from now in 2020.
To be fair, it’s not changed much - it’s just that one very tall building in the middle of Lujiazui in the Pudong area that’s being built at the moment which is different from the [...]
All the main walkways are big at the Expo site in Shanghai. By the side of this large structure a sign reads “Do not touch during Thunderstorm” …hmmm sounds scary to me, especially when you know how often Shanghai has thunderstorms!!
Shanghai, China :: July 2010
Side by side, the China Pavilion drarfs the Macao Pavilion by the side of it. The Macao Pavilion also changes colour, I think the green here contrasts quite well here.
Shanghai, China :: July 2010
A night time view of the Malaysian Pavilion with the Lupu Bridge in the background.
Seen at the Shanghai World Expo from the Indonesian Pavilion.
Shanghai, China :: July 2010
Song Jiang is in the south west corner of the Shanghai area (and not strictly speaking in Shanghai), and it has been expanded over the last 10-15 years to make it a centre of learning and a place for different universities to set up and have space to grow. So much so, that there is [...]
Getting your haircut / blow dried / styled must be a serious business in Shanghai…. or it’s a favourite pass-time!
The number of hairdressers in Shanghai is huge and they open all hours of the day. In particular, it’s really fun seeing how they wash someone’s hair whilst they sit reading a magazine.
Near Huaihai Lu, Shanghai [...]
It’s just really quite pleasant here on Redang Island. These beach houses are along the beach from the Leguna Resort and represent the more expensive side of the island. To be fair you really don’t need to stay in one of these places unless you insist on paying more than necessary. However, they do look [...]
The neon is taking over Shanghai and it’s making me happy!! This is a view of the underneath of Yanan Lu near Jing’An Temple in Shanghai. The blue neon lights are like these are everywhere under the elevated highways in the city of Shanghai and they are extremely effective!
Another break in the Malaysia image flow… this is the view taken from the Hyatt on the Bund Hotel in Shanghai, looking towards the Pudong area. I took this image a few days ago and thought it was quite good for a night time image using my Canon G10.
Singapore by night :: April 2010.
Got to say… it’s a pretty cool city/state/country!
Second in a series of underpass pictures and in this case I’m pretty pleased with the position of the tree!
Also taken in Singapore and you can see a similar example tomorrow!!
April 2010.
I guess I have a fascination for geometric patterns, interesting shapes, the night time and rich saturated colours. Pretty much all of these elements are present in this image and tomorrow’s image. My collection of underpasses and highways is beginning to form a body of work in it’s own write. I even thought I was [...]
For some reason this man was quite interesting as he was sitting by a stall with a cigarette out of his mouth selling something.
His weathered face is typical of people his age living in Melaka having enjoyed many years of the warmth that Melaka affords.
Malaysia :: April 2010.
Seem in the night street market in Melaka in Malaysia. Tasty Egg Tarts!
April 2010.
Back to Singapore and a night time view of the Singapore Flyer. Looks pretty much like the London Eye!
April 2010.
Deep blue, yellow lights and enough cable to go around the Earth several times can be seen around the Yuyuan area of Shanghai.
It’s February half term (and Chinese New Year), so I’ve gone to Yong Pyong with some friends for 5 days.
This is the view from one of the hotels.
…and no I’m not in Pyongyang, North Korea!!
Final images of the Shanghai Gymnasium in Zhongshan Park with the Renaissance Hotel in the background.
