I was visiting a friend who works for one of the Song Jiang universities. They have a ’student street’ there, where everyone goes in the evening to eat, drink fruit juice (yes I didn’t see a student bar!), buy stationery and generally hangout. It also appears to be an area where it’s very easy to [...]
For some reason this man was quite interesting as he was sitting by a stall with a cigarette out of his mouth selling something.
His weathered face is typical of people his age living in Melaka having enjoyed many years of the warmth that Melaka affords.
Malaysia :: April 2010.
There’s all sorts of food and interesting things going on at the night market in Melaka. This man is chipping out the last of a hard sweet ready to sell.

This chap cut a house key for me last month and was also happy to pose for a photo.

Building a brick wall somewhere in Shanghai. I particularly like the warm tones in this image :: October 2009
Keeping the constructions dust out of your hair and mouth is a serious business around the road construction sites.

Fishing Village is a place made famous by Bill Clinton when he visited this remote village just off the Li River in Guangxi Province in South West China. Fishing Village is one of those places only accessable by boat. Most of the residents are camera shy. However, this guy was willing to pose and I [...]
These helpful ladies will kindly sell you postcards, water, cola and beer on your journey from the roadside to the top of Moon Hill. It’s only an hours walk, but in the Guangxi summer heat, it get’s pretty hot up there! These ladies will also lend a hand in pointing you in the right direction.
These ladies must range in age from 40’s to over 70. They easily walk up and down Moon Hill several times a day following tourists and hoping for a quick sale. Mind you, they can’t be making much money from the odd sale of over prices water at 3 rmb!
We thought we had enough water, but we were quite happy to buy another two and a couple cans of coke at the top. Prices were no different than a local Family Mart (at least after a little haggling!).
These next 4 images are of the women who follow you up and down your walk at Moon Hill just outside Yangshuo in the Guangxi Province of SW China. They carry a small selection of cold drinks in a small insulated boxes as well as postcards. Apart from the fact that it’s hard to shift [...]
Lady in Qibao, taking a break from cleaning the streets. Qibao, near Shanghai. Summer 2009.
I thought this looked like an interesting couple! Taken in Qibao, Shanghai during the summer of 2009.
Taken during a five minute flash rain storm in Qibao near Shanghai. Everyone was running from the rain, this guy seemed to be happy enough about it all.
… and neither was I! Five minute flash rain storm in Qibao, Shanghai resulted in everyone running for cover under a nearby bike rack roof.
