Huangpu :: Shanghai
Huangpu :: Shanghai

The Huangpu River winds through Shanghai and splits the city into the Puxi and Pudong sides (west and east respectively).
The Huangpu River is seen here from the Vue Bar in the Hyatt on the Bund - great view, expensive drinks
To the left is the new financial centre of Lujiazui and the Pearl Tower [...]

Let’s go fly a kite
Let's go fly a kite

Kites are everywhere in the Shanghai public parks and they range from small ones like this, to kites which are flown up to a couple kilometers high above.
This one was seen in the Century Park area of Pudong.

Hyatt on the Bund :: View towards Pudong
Hyatt on the Bund :: View towards Pudong

Another break in the Malaysia image flow… this is the view taken from the Hyatt on the Bund Hotel in Shanghai, looking towards the Pudong area.  I took this image a few days ago and thought it was quite good for a night time image using my Canon G10.

Shanghai Pearl Tower :: Lujiazui
Shanghai Pearl Tower :: Lujiazui

A view of the Pearl Communication Tower in Shanghai. I’m not sure where I was when I took this image and I initially rejected it thinking I didn’t like it. However, sometimes it’s good to go through images again and on a second viewing I’ve decided that I really do like this image. [...]

Looking down on the second tallest building in Shanghai from the tallest building and wondering who’s holding the ropes!

The Pearl Tower, Pudong, Shanghai
The Pearl Tower, Pudong, Shanghai

My final night time image of Shanghai for a while.  This is the Pearl Tower, an iconic image for Shanghai.  I’m hoping this counts as a more unusual view of the tower, taken from a temporary bridge near the new World Financial Centre.

Posing in my Digger
Posing in my Digger

More of Pudong Construction at night.  The workers in their orange hats and uniforms were happy to pose from a distance, but not so happy when I asked for some closeups.  However, these workers were not shy and stayed in the cab of this digger for a while so I could get this shot.  They [...]

Pudong Construction
Pudong Construction

Slightly different to yesterday’s images of Pudong, this one has one of my favourite features - a bright orange digger!
The construction workers were also happy to be in this image, although it’s hard to make them out.

Shiny Shanghai
Shiny Shanghai

It’s been a while coming, but here are the first few images of Shanghai at night.  This next series is taken in Pudong and features the World Financial Centre, the Jin Mao Tower and some of the the construction at night.

Relaxing at work
Relaxing at work

These construction workers in Shanghai work long hours.  Many of them have migrated from other parts of the country and have no real home here but live in basic conditions either onsite or very close by.  They’re a friendly lot as well and very proud of the work they are doing.

Contributing to China’s Prosperity
Contributing to China's Prosperity

The construction in Shanghai is on a grand scale.  Construction workers here show much dedication and are very proud of their work.  The title for this post is also what’s written on my tax form from the Chinese government: “Thank you for contributing to China’s Prosperity” - it seems appropriate for this and the next [...]

Shanghai Construction
Shanghai Construction

I am a fan of construction images.  Here’s one and no doubt more will follow.  I already have quite a collection of construction images, if you want to see some of my previous work, then check out my portfolio link above which takes you to my regular website.
The “From the back of a cab” series [...]

Changing Perspectives - Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone II

Just a little walk changes you perspective quite a lot.  Compare this image with another taken on the same day called: Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone

Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone
Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone

The Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone looks very cool from The Bund and is part of the Pudong side of Shanghai. I took this image on a beautiful autumn day in 2008 just after the Shanghai World Financial Center opened (aka the giant bottle opener!).

    This is currently one of my  favourite images and represents life in the suburbs of Shanghai.  There has been frantic construction going on for several years now to place Shanghai in the best infrastructure position possible.  The domestic Hong Qiao Airport recently opened a brand new terminal and this happened in conjunction with a new [...]
