This is one of the new Expressway roads opened earlier this year in Shanghai. Caught at a quiet time, but believe me it can get busy!
Seen near Shanghai Hongqiao Airport :: July 2010
This is currently one of my favourite images and represents life in the suburbs of Shanghai. There has been frantic construction going on for several years now to place Shanghai in the best infrastructure position possible. The domestic Hong Qiao Airport recently opened a brand new terminal and this happened in conjunction with a new [...]
I took this image last year and I was never really happy with my original black and white conversion. Having recently worked on more images from the same area after the construction was completed, I decided to go back to this image and some others to look at how I can improve them. This one [...]
Someone please tell me that the man on the left is a relative of Mao!
Seen in Shanghai :: June 2010
I used to think street photography and capturing images as you see them to be challenging and somewhat a matter of luck. Since living in Shanghai I’ve come to enjoy this style of photography and learn’t that it’s not about luck at all; the element of planning, working out your intention beforehand and the ability [...]
After a couple days of the Urban Planning Museum and what they think Shanghai will look like… I feel the need for a present day view!!
This is the night time view from the hotel lobby of the Marriott Hotel at Tomorrow Square on Nanjing Xi Lu in Shanghai. I believe it’s the 38th floor.
The future [...]
Zhongshan Park is one of the 4 or 5 main urban centres of Shanghai and currently the area I live. In fact you can see my apartment, it’s on the bottom right and the second building of 3 tall buildings…
The Urban Planning Museum in Shanghai is really quite cool - they have a whole city [...]
This is the future of Shanghai and a glimpse of what it will look like 10 years from now in 2020.
To be fair, it’s not changed much - it’s just that one very tall building in the middle of Lujiazui in the Pudong area that’s being built at the moment which is different from the [...]
All the main walkways are big at the Expo site in Shanghai. By the side of this large structure a sign reads “Do not touch during Thunderstorm” …hmmm sounds scary to me, especially when you know how often Shanghai has thunderstorms!!
Shanghai, China :: July 2010
Side by side, the China Pavilion drarfs the Macao Pavilion by the side of it. The Macao Pavilion also changes colour, I think the green here contrasts quite well here.
Shanghai, China :: July 2010
A night time view of the Malaysian Pavilion with the Lupu Bridge in the background.
Seen at the Shanghai World Expo from the Indonesian Pavilion.
Shanghai, China :: July 2010
Another view of the Australian Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo - this time with people outside!
Shanghai, China :: July 2010
As dusk falls, the Australian Pavilion warms up with the night time sky.
Seen at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 :: July 2010
At least this is a corner of the British Pavilion. On the day I went it was as busy as any other day (2 hour queues, etc), so there was no chance I was going to wait in line - especially since I’ve heard that the inside is not that interesting.
So this is my corner [...]
The China Pavilion has to be the most impressive structure at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.
Seen here through the barriers and the red is fabulous!
Shanghai :: July 2010
…but there’s plenty of sun to shade yourself from!
Seen on the Bund in Shanghai :: July 2010
So whilst the Bund Sight Seeing Tunnel is not the best use of money or time, having lunch or coffee on the 92nd floors of the Park Hyatt Hotel in the Shanghai World Financial Centre is a great use of time and money.
This seafood looks great, but this time we only had an iced latte [...]
This is as exciting as it gets on a 1.3 second exposure. Unless you are really desperate for a fun shot like this - do not spend good money on the Bund Sight Seeing Tunnel, it’s really not worth it!!
The Huangpu River winds through Shanghai and splits the city into the Puxi and Pudong sides (west and east respectively).
The Huangpu River is seen here from the Vue Bar in the Hyatt on the Bund - great view, expensive drinks
To the left is the new financial centre of Lujiazui and the Pearl Tower [...]
Lujiazui and Pudong seen from the Vue Bar at the Hyatt on the Bund hotel.
Seen today, Shanghai :: July 2010
This old wok looks well used and well loved. It was hanging on an outside wall to someone’s home in the Minhang area of Shanghai.
Shanghai, May 2010.
Everything door related is fascinating me at the moment, the colours, textures, small variations in design, also the way the doors are looked after or neglected.
Entrances in Shanghai also have a standard numbering system using blue squares with the road name and number. These start to look interesting when they get old or are falling [...]
